TO THE AUBURN CREATIVE DISTRICT!

ABOUT THE DISTRICT

Auburn’s Creative District has many unique aspects, including our rich history, two downtowns, the abundance of local creatives and entrepreneurs – and also our exciting connection to the honeybees! Did you know that the honeybee was named Nebraska’s official state insect in 1975 after a campaign led by an Auburn third grade teacher and her students? In honor of this achievement, 27 honeybee sculptures painted by local artists adorn the area. Most of the sculptures reside in Auburn, with a few in the neighboring towns of Brock, Brownville, Julian, Peru and Johnson. The honeybee sculpture project reminds people that working together is important for the community, similar to how it is for a hive – a perfect analogy for life in Auburn.

Meet Blossom

Blossom was born into a thriving hive deep in the Nebraska prairie, where the fields stretched endlessly with wildflowers. Her hive was known for its diligent workers, but Blossom had always been different—more drawn to the colors of the petals than the nectar itself, fascinated by the patterns of nature.

One day as Blossom painted golden streaks of pollen across the petals of a daisy, she heard a soft rustling in the wind. The wildflowers around her began to hum—a melody she had never heard before. The sound carried a message, a longing, an invitation.

“The flowers of Auburn are waiting,” they whispered. “A hive is growing, filled with dreamers, builders, and makers. They need a bee with a heart like yours.”

Blossom felt the pull deep in her wings. She had spent her life spreading beauty, and now, a new canvas awaited. With a final farewell to her meadow, she set off toward Auburn, ready to bring her gifts to a new hive where creativity was taking root.
