Lead for Nebraska: Blog #1

Hi Auburn! My name is Ken Edwards and I am serving with the Auburn Development Council as an AmeriCorps service member with Lead for Nebraska. Periodically, I am going to provide some updates on my service over the next two years.

About 5 months ago, I was asked if I’d be interested in being a part of a program called Lead for Nebraska, which is a newly established branch of the AmeriCorps Fellowship, Lead for America. Lead for America was formed to place Fellows into communities, mostly rural, for two years to work on projects like broadband expansion/implementation, digital literacy, or even public health. I was intrigued, so I went through the application process and was selected to serve in Auburn. Even though I just finished my third month, it’s been a great experience learning a new community and figuring out what you all hope to have happen in your community. I’m serving with an awesome team at the Auburn Development Council where my focus will be on projects relating to broadband expansion, assisting ADC to fulfill their strategic plan, and helping residents and businesses in Auburn learn how to take advantage of the internet.

I’m truly excited to be on this journey helping however I can. Living a life of service brings me great happiness, even though the process isn’t always easy and stress-free. If I were in it for the money, I chose the wrong career path; however, the fact I get to help communities I care about is what makes it worthwhile.
